Camp Counselor Summer 2020 - March 5, 2020

Summary of Position:

An enthusiastic, attentive Camp Counselor to lead, support, and motivate campers as they attend an 8 week summer day camp. The Camp Counselor will help plan enrichments, lead youth activities, monitor campers and respond to incidents, such as behavioral problems or accidents, log events and maintain records relating to activities, and discuss camper participation and concerns with Program Manager. Camp Counselors should be positive, proactive, and caring while focusing on giving campers a fun, safe, educational camp experience. To succeed as a Camp Counselor, you should be upbeat, decisive, and responsible. You should also be organized and possess strong leadership skills. Stipend available.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain an engaging and safe environment for youth participants 
  • Developing caring, responsive and genuine relationships with youth participants 
  • Supervise and engage with the children during activities to ensure the success of all planned objectives.
  • Lead and support enrolled youth.
  • Assist the camp manager in program development and implementation for the camp
  • season.
  • Ensure the safety of all children during drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Monitors campers to ensure compliance with the camp rules and work proactively to prevent incidents and accidents.
  • Clean, maintain, and ensure proper use of camp facilities and equipment.
  • Report and record details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to camp parents and manager.
  • Delivers services with sensitivity to the children’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and engages children and parents with respect and integrity.
  • Invests in creating and supporting a healthy and successful workplace culture.

Requirements:

  • 16 years old and older
  • Active enrollment in high school or college.
  • Majoring in Education, Psychology, Social Work or relevant field preferred
  • Self-motivated, organized and able to adapt to new situations and environments
  • Ability to empathize and positively engage participants and parents  
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and lift 25 pounds 
  • Previous childcare experience preferred
