Why Spay or Neuter?

Health – Your pet will live a longer, healthier life.

Sterilized pets live an average of two to three years longer than pets that are not sterilized.
The risk of certain cancers decreased when you sterilize your pet.
Spay as early as possible, don’t wait for the first heat or the first litter as risk increases with time.
95% of unaltered males will develop prostate enlargement – requiring a painful surgery and expensive treatment. Neutering decreases the risk of testicular tumors, testicular cancer and hernias.
Spaying significantly reduces the chance of developing breast cancer and uterine infections and uterine cancer in females. (26% will develop these conditions unsprayed).

The Myths About Spay/Neuter

It will not make your animal fat – lack of exercise and too much food cause obesity.
It does not make your animal “less of a man” or say because they never had “children” – humans tend to project their feelings about reproduction onto their pets – animals reproduce from instinct and not from emotion.
Spay/Neuter will not alter your pet’s basic personality, except that sterilized pets tent to be more calm, more focused on you and less likely to roam.
Spay/Neuter surgery is the most common surgery performed on pets. It is safe and your pet needs minimal recovery time, usually about a week to ten days.
Spay/Neuter surgery is not dangerous or painful. It is much less stressful for your pet than having litter after litter of puppies and kittens.
You can have your pet sterilized at two months of age as long as they weigh two pounds. The earlier they are sterilized the better.
No pet is too old. Pets over six years of age will need to have blood work done to make sure they are healthy enough to undergo anesthesia.
