Imagine Englewood if Addresses Gun-Violence on "National Make a Difference Day" October 22nd.

In light of the uptick in gun violence in Chicago’s Englewood Community, Imagine Englewood if has chosen violence prevention as the focus of this year’s  “Make A Difference Day”.  A community resource fair for all ages, “Bridging the Generational G.A.P. for Grandparents, Adolescents & Parents” will bring older residents face-to-face with neighborhood youth in the hopes of finding solutions.  “We have 20 empty chairs of youth struck down by gun violence, which sits at an all-time high in Englewood.  Come, and let your voice be heard in their honor,” stated Mrs. Jean Carter-Hill, IEi’s co-founder & executive director.  Speakers will include Police Officer Angela Wormley, 7th District CAPS Community Liaison Officer, and officials from CeaseFire. The event will be held at Imagine Englewood if, 730 W. 69th St., Chicago, IL on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

National Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of community service, when millions of Americans unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.   Imagine Englewood if is a 501(c)3 organization that has participated in Make a Difference Day every year since 2000.  The organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Englewood, a community that suffers from many socio-economic ills on a daily basis.

This year’s event promises live entertainment, hands-on activities, community resources for all ages, raffle prizes, and food.  Also available will be free HIV screenings and voter registration (bring two pieces of identification).  Vendors are welcome, and admission is free.  For more information on Make a Difference Day, including vendor information, call 773.488.6704; fax:  488.6705; email:  info@imagineenglewoodif.org, website:  www.imagineenglewoodif.org
