Reforming the Criminal Justice System Sentencing Laws

Keynote speakers at the rally held at the James R. Thompson Center were:  Johnny Outlaw of Teamwork Englewood, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Father Pfleger of St. Sabina Church.  The speakers explained the racial implications of the current sentencing laws.  Crack cocaine convictions carry a stiffer sentence than powder cocaine convictions.  Blacks have a higher rate of conviction for crack cocaine than powder concaine.  The sentencing laws should be the same for both.  Contact your State Representative and other elected officials and voice your support for a change in these laws.  Stay informed on this important issue by contacting Johnny Outlaw at joutlaw@teamworkenglewood.org.
