What is the purpose of Englewood Speaks?
As Englewood parents, community residents and business owners we want to ensure that  our children receive a high quality education which prepares them to compete in a global collegiate environment.  As we transition to a new mayor, a new Chief Education Officer (CEO) for Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and a new Chicago Board of Education, we have a unique opportunity to reshape the educational landscape. This meeting allows Englewood stakeholders to participate in dialogue that will directly impact the educational strategic plan for our neighborhood.

What will we discuss?

Chicago Public Schools is the third largest school district in the nation with over 400,000 students and over 600 schools.  It can be quite difficult to implement change within such a large system.  Our discussion will focus on specific topics on education such as:

  • What are the educational values and priorities for Englewood?
  • Given the large budget deficit what matters most when discussing education reform?
  • How can the community contribute to the success of CPS students?

Again join us, Wednesday, May 11,  2011 at 6 p.m., at Kennedy King College – in the Great Hall, 740 W. 63rd. It is imperative that you send your registration form to attend this event. Please RSVP with the Office of Family & Community Engagement (FACE) via email or phone with your name, school affiliation, and contact information to FCE@cps.edu or (773)553-5664, by May 4, 2011.

Be a part of the educational discussion that impacts the Greater Englewood neighborhood!
