New Board members welcomed at the Chicago Dental Society -- Dr. Cheryl Watson-Lowry appointed President-elect

With nearly 30 years of experience as a practicing general dentist, Dr. Cheryl Watson-Lowry was sworn in as president-elect of the Chicago Dental Society (CDS), at a ceremony held on Sunday, November 12, at the Palmer House Hotel. Dr. Watson-Lowry is only the third woman to hold the position in the history of the society.

In her role as president-elect, Dr. Watson-Lowry will focus CDS’s efforts on membership and the 153rd Midwinter Meeting, February 22-24, 2018, at the McCormick Place West. The Midwinter Meeting is one of the largest exhibits of dental products and professional dentistry in North America – ranking among Chicago’s top 20 conventions, and typically generating more than $29 million for the local economy (according to Choose Chicago).

CDS was established in 1864, and with more than 4,400 members in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties, is the largest local society of the American Dental Association.

Dr. Watson-Lowry graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago College of Dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, The Odontographic Society of Chicago, and the Lincoln Dental Society. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. She received a Presidential Citation from the American Dental Association this past October for her Congressional Testimony to the House of Representative’s Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, Action for Dental Health Act 2017 H.R. 2422 Examining Initiatives to Advance Public Health in May.

She has been practicing dentistry for more than 30 years and took over her father’s dental practice in 1987.

Dr. Watson-Lowry lives in Chicago with her husband William Lowry Sr. and their three children, William Jr., Evan and Clarke.
