The Amazing Race

Friday, July 11 proved to be a day of fun and friendship for students in the Greencorps Youth program.  The morning session, led by mentors Charles and Bettie, went on a scavenger hunt in and around the school.  Faced with tasks such as getting a staff member to do the "D Low Shuffle" (and filming it!), recreating a scene from the movie "Titanic" and taking a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower, some early hesitation quickly made way for excitement and an urgency to get the race going.  Six teams of two took off for an hour with strict instructions to complete all ten tasks on school grounds.  Jonnas and Mary were the winners, ten minutes ahead of the next group.  After reconvening, students shared their videos and pictures.  With the goal of creating unity, teamwork and making new friends, as well as thinking creatively and generally "outside the box", the activity was a clear success and will be repeated before the program ends on August 8.

The scavenger hunt was followed by a catered lunch.
