Englewood Community Prepares Families for a Safe, Fun, and Healthy Summer

May 13, 2019. Englewood, Chicago. -- Organizations from the Englewood community are organizing the first Education and Family Resource Fair on Saturday, May 18th at the Salvation Army at 945 W. 69th Street from 10am to 3pm. This event includes summer youth employment opportunities and summer youth programs. The event is sponsored by the Englewood Quality of Life Education and Youth Task Force. The Englewood Quality of Life Plan (EQLP) is a community driven plan to improve the Quality of Life for Englewood residents. The Education and Youth Task Force is one of five task forces working to address issues impacting the community through programs and initiatives.

"This event aims to provide Englewood families information about education resources in the community, programs, and jobs available to ensure families have a safe and healthy summer that can encourage peace and positivity", says Danielle Wallace, Education and Youth Task Force leader.

There will be over twenty organizations present and the event will also include a pop-up "Buy the Block" lunch & learn session where real estate experts, lenders and potential first time home buyers will discuss the current housing marketing trends and benefits of owning a home in Englewood. This session is being presented by the Englewood Quality of Life Plan "Buy the Block" initiative, organized by the Resident Association of Greater Englewood (RAGE) to engage more Englewood residents on how they should look to invest as homeowners vs. renters.

"At the Buy the Block lunch & learn on May 18th we will have an intimate discussion with families and real estate experts to share and provide more tools to help them move in the direction of homeownership", Asiaha Butler, Executive Director of Resident Association of Greater Englewood.

The Englewood Quality of Life Plan has over six hundred engaged residents and stakeholders all working toward improving the Quality of Life in Englewood with monthly meetings and events.

The Education and Family Resource Fair is from 10am to 3pm at Red Shield Salvation Army located at 945 W. 69th Street, Chicago, IL 60621. For more information please contact Cecile De Mello, Englewood Quality of Life Project Manager at cdemello@teamworkenglewood.org
