Advocate Trinity Hospital to host June 21 Farmer's Market

Advocate Trinity Hospital will host two summer Farmer’s Markets this year. The first will be Wednesday, June 21 from 10 am to 2 pm, in the hospital’s parking lot located on the northwest corner of 93rd Street and Yates Blvd.

Advocate has partnered with Cristina Foods, a wholesale food service distributor, to supply fresh produce and other items for the event. Shoppers will have access to healthy foods produced in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan, including green and vine-ripened tomatoes, honey, carrots, and potatoes. Fresh greens, corn, jalapeno peppers, grapes and melons, will be available and much more.

“We are invested in reducing the disproportionately high rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and stroke in the surrounding community. And a healthy diet is an important step in both managing and preventing these conditions, which are more common on the Southside than anywhere else in Chicago,” says Terika Richardson, President of Advocate Trinity Hospital.

Information about healthy eating, recipes and giveaways to lucky shoppers will be available. There will also be opportunities for people living with diabetes, breast cancer or the effects of stroke to ask questions about how diet impacts their health and learn how to access free educational and moral support.

The June farmer’s market will be the first of two weekday markets at Advocate Trinity this summer. The second farmer’s market will take place Tuesday, September 12 at the same time and location. The items available at each farmer’s market are subject to change as the growing season progresses.

Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn will host farmer’s markets as well. More information can be found on Advocate Health Care’s Facebook page.
